Well, John's Bikes in Bath are fantastic people. We're back on the road by 10.30, and despite cycling rather gingerly, it's nevertheless a relief. Helen and Thomas agree to go to St. Briavels to meet us, in case of any further problems, and general emotional support. They take Al's rucksack, but I keep my panniers as I want to be sure my wheel will cope under the load. The day's cycling is mainly about picking our way round Bristol, but for once I've got my distance about right, and we're much more cheerful when we meet Helen and Thomas for lunch in Yate.
We then head down towards the old Severn Bridge, which has a cycle track alongside it, and it's an odd experience cycling over this. I'm delighted to finally make it to Wales, and we make quick work of the hill from Chepstow to St. Briavels. The Youth Hostel in St. Briavels is an old castle, and an amazing place to stay, and by the end of the day we feel much better about everything.
